In the latest in our "Where in the World?" series, Ray Simpson swopped e mails earlier in the season with Darlo fan Egil Sporsheim from Norway.

Where are you from?

I'm from a town called Horten, about 100 km south of Oslo.

How long have you supported the club?

I first heard about Darlington on our national broadcasting corporation, NRK back in 2004 as far as I remember! It was in a radio show where they wanted to follow a football team from England through a season to see what happened to it. And to go against everyone else who were interested in teams like Arsenal, Man Utd and the big ones, their choice fell on Darlington FC. I thought it was kind of cool to do so, so I've followed on since!

Have you ever seen Darlo play?

Ah, no. Unfortunately I haven't! Not live, that is. Only the recaps on FB. But I would like to someday, though...

Do you watch the highlights on our website?

Yes I do, Ray. As often as I become aware of them. The best one is when we win..... :)

Who is your favourite player?

Tough question, Ray. Have to say that I do not really have any favourite player. How does the standard of football that you see in the highlights on our website, compare to the standard of football in your country?

I think Darlington would have had a somewhat top position in our 2. division, or a low position in our second highest League called 1. division.

I think I'm right in believing that you have a winter break from football in Norway. Do you think we should have one in the UK?

Yes we have. They'll be starting with friendly matches around January 24. And the League starts in the middle of March. To keep up with the rest of Europe, I don't think you can afford such a break, but maybe ease up a bit on the fixtures mid winter. However, this might perhaps apply mostly to the teams in the top divisions.

Does bad weather (like heavy rain or snow) cause games to be postponed in your country?

Sometimes, but not too often, and it has to be really bad then. The teams in the Northern parts of Norway have to play their games in early winter time, mind you.

Do they play on pitches covered in snow? We seem to have stopped doing that in our country.

Well... It seams that more and more football teams invest money in artificial grass pitches with underfloor heating in addition to their ordinary pitch....if they have the money, that is. And more of the top teams have their artificial turf within a stadium. But yes, the majority of the football teams throughout Norway play on snow covered pitches....if it's not too much snow of course!

What do people think about you supporting Darlington?

I think it's a bit fun when people ask me 'bout which foreign football team I like the most and I answer, "Darlington!" Like to see the surprise in their faces because they expect the answer to be something like, Man Utd, Arsenal, WBA, Spurs, Barca... And then they go like.... "Who???" Priceless!!!

Wishing The Quakers all the best
