Under 23s return to winning form with 4-0 victory

Recovery from last week's defeat

Our Under 23s recovered from last week’s defeat against Middlestone Moor with a good 4-0 away win at Hetton on Saturday.

Ste Dawson and Jack Mortimer scored two apiece to keep them level on points with Middlestone Moor at the top of the table, but having played two games more.

Manager Grant Cuthbertson said; “The lads performed well in parts after the upset of last week.

“It wasn’t the best of games and play, but a clean sheet and three points are all that matter.”

Straight out the blocks from kick off Darlo applied the press early, you could see just how keen they were to right the wrongs and it didn’t long for Jack Mortimer to dink a nice ball into Ste Dawson who tucked home tidily only two minutes into the game for the Darlo lead.

The boys had good moments for the next 30 minutes, doing everything but putting the ball in the back of the next. Jack Mortimer got his shooting boots laced and found our second.

With Owen Smith off for Kayne Williams at the break Will Maddison dropped to the back with Kayne taking his place in midfield. Mortimer and Dawson produced their usual chemistry to get the boys 3-0 with a smart Mortimer finish only three minutes into the half.

A controlled second half of possession played out much the same as the first, Toby Sparrow came on and broke the lines really well. Dawson popped up with the fourth towards the end of the game. It was a good bounce back and now on to the cup this Saturday.
