Under 23s hit double figures to go second in the table

Rampant win over Hetton

Our Under 23s had their best win yet in the Wearside League when they thumped Hetton 12-2 at Eastbourne Sports Complex on Wednesday night.

They have now played three times in the Wearside League and won them all, to put them second in the table.

Even though there were players missing due to suspensions, the management team had 19 players to choose from, which is remarkable for a midweek game with work commitments and shows the dedication of the players.

Steven Dawson was man of the match with four of the goals, with Dylan Jackson (2) Ethan Cuthbertson, Oliver Walters, Alfie Robinson, Adam Glew, Harvey Hinckes and Ishmail Koroma getting the others.

The start was frantic but Darlington quickly imposed their patterns of play and discipline and on the 15th min scored their first goal through Steven Dawson who calmly slotted away his chance. Hetton continued to be resilient in defence but through good strong play and determination found the net a further three times in the first half to make it 4-0.

At half time manager Grant Cuthbertson asked the team to play more on the ground and make the ball move from left to right and be more patient in their play and the chances would come.

They took the plan on board and were clinical, scoring a further eight times!

Grant said; "I was pleased with the performance overall especially with the depth of the squad, availability and attitudes. "
