The clubs met in season 1989-90, when Quakers had dropped into the GM Vauxhall Conference, and they were carrying all before them.

Quakers travelled to Chorley on 26th September 1989, and won 3-0. David Cork headed in a Frank Gray corner seven minutes before half time, and on 48 minutes he made it 2-0 from a Paul Emson pass. Mark Hine then brilliantly volleyed the third on 74 minutes. The victory stretched Quakers’ unbeaten start to the season to nine games.

The scoreline was the same in the return game at Feethams on 30th December,

New signing Gary Gill came on as a sub for John Borthwick and within five minutes set up the opening goal for David Corner in the 3-0 win. David Cork then set up the second for Andy Toman with a backheel, and sub Gary Hyde crossed for Emson to head the third. Darlo were second in the table, two points behind Macclesfield with two games in hand.
