Salford v Darlington - Match Preview

Salford v Darlington - Match Preview

Simon Hahn brings us his big match preview Tomorrow we travel to Salford City in what is our most anticipated game of the 2014/15 season so far. Before the season started the two sides were tipped as the two title favourites and this has continued throughout the first half of the season.

Following the class of 92 taking over Salford City they have made their ambition to climb the leagues clear. This was shown in January as they replaced their manager, which was followed by a string of new signings in a bid to boost their promotion chances this season.

Over the first few months of the season Salford looked unstoppable, however, the Quakers have gone on a fantastic run since October and are now in the driving seat for the title, despite currently lying third.

Northwich Victoria and Salford are tied at the top of the league table on 56 points, but it is Darlington in the best position, sitting just three points behind with five games in hand.

The Quakers were struggling for form when the teams met in September and Salford were able to come away from Heritage Park with a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from former Manchester United player Danny Webber. However, the game would prove the turning point for Darlington, who have not lost a league game since. For Salford though they have lost six league games in the same period.

Last weekend Salford lost 3-1 away to Brighouse Town, finishing the game with nine men.

As for Martin Gray’s side, they will go into the game full of confidence having returned to winning action last weekend at Ossett Town, 2-0. With no fresh injury concerns from last week, only Amar Purewal continues to remain side lined.

Salford have struggled to attract more than 300 fans for home games this season, however, a bumper crowd is expected tomorrow with all hoping the game will survive this weeks snow.

The league leaders Northwich travel to Ossett Town.
