Make time to move this lockdown and taking time for yourself!

There is no better time than the beginning of the year to create new goals and set yourself challenges. January is normally the month where everyone goes fitness crazy however, as we are now in another national lockdown, with gyms and sports centres closed, we need to be more creative with the ways we can stay active.

Staying fit and active is difficult at the best of times and now with the addition of the restrictions of a lockdown and the cold winter months, it makes finding the time and motivation to exercise even harder. It is important that people across the UK keep up their fitness levels during this lockdown to benefit both mental and physical health. This can be going for a walk, doing a quick home workout or even walking up and down the stairs.

Since the first lockdown in March 2020 there was a surge in home workouts and daily exercises. People were filling up their day and keeping their minds busy by exercising. Figures in July showed that the Public Health England’s ‘Couch to 5k’ app was downloaded almost a million times. Which was a 92% increase on downloads during the same time in 2019.

Being active has many benefits for your mental health, which is something a lot of people struggled with during the first lockdown and will undoubtedly become a struggle in this lockdown. Exercise has a positive impact on serotonin levels which is the chemical in the brain that improves your mood and overall sense of well-being. Keeping active also boots your immune system which reduces the chance of illness in the future.

If you are already someone who is interested in health and fitness why not turn your passion into a career?
