Darlington 5 Worcester City 1

Quakers scored four times from headers as they scored five for the second Saturday in succession.

Quakers took the lead on 19 minutes from their third corner of the game. Josh Gillies curled the ball from the left hand side into the near post where Gary Brown got away from his marker and headed into the roof of the net.

Quakers went 2-0 up on 27 minutes, when Stephen Thompson crossed delicately from the right, and Mark Beck, six yards out, headed into the bottom corner for his fifth league goal of the season.

It was nearly 3-0 on 43 minutes when Terry Galbraith swung a corner over from the right for Beck’s header to be deflected wide for a corner on the other side. There was to be no mistake from this setpiece as Gillies once again curled the ball over for Brown to head an identical goal to his first.

Quakers nearly got a fourth at the start of the second half, when Stephen Thompson’s shot from the edge of the box was deflected just wide, but Quakers scored from the corner. There was a real scramble in the Worcester box, and the ball came out to Phil Turnbull whose shot from 25 yards was cleared off the line, Gillies’ follow up was blocked, and Beck volleyed the ball past the stranded keeper.

It was 5-0 on 56 minutes. Gillies played the ball back for Tez, who had time to measure a delightful cross on to the head of sub David Syers to head past the keeper.

Worcester pulled a goal back on 71 minutes when Ebby Nelson-Addy burst through the middle and beat Peter Jameson with a low right foot shot, but that was a mere consolation as Quakers strolled through the rest of the game.
