Darlington’s new defender Jordan Watson says that he’s joining a “big club.”

The 23 year old signed on the dotted line for Quakers earlier in the week after leaving Blyth, and now he can’t wait for pre-season training to begin.

“It’s a good move for me,” he said. “When I spoke to Martin Gray, it was obvious that he had big ambitions for the club. It was obvious that he wants to win the National League North, let alone consolidate in it.

“The club is run like a pro club, in its structure, ambition and direction. It’s got a really big fan base as well compared to Blyth , as I found out when I played for Blyth. There must have been at least 1500 Darlington fans behind Darlington in both games.

“I think the move I’m making now is a step in the right direction. I would love to become a full time pro again.”

Jordan started his career at Sunderland, and was doing well until he suffered two injuries. “The first was a cruciate injury that kept me out for a full season, and then in my first training session back, my knee went again.

“I was released soon after. I joined Blyth just after the start of the 2014-15 season and played nearly 60 games in two years. I think the best game I played in was against Hartlepool, when we beat them in the FA Cup. We played Birmingham in the next round, and I don’t know why we didn’t hang on after being two goals up.

“Now, I want to help Darlington win promotion again.”
