Darlington Football Club is delighted to announce the Player of the Month for December.

The Club are thrilled to make this award to Daisy Simpson, in recognition for her superb charity work in the community during the course of this year. Alun Armstrong, DFC Manager said, “It’s great to see Daisy thinking of others before herself and on behalf of the players and management staff we thank Daisy for her wonderful work and I’m very pleased Daisy has got this accolade.  Merry Christmas to Daisy and her family, and I look forward to seeing her at a game at some point in the future”.

Daisy, who plays for the DFC U10 girls team, has been fundraising since the first national lockdown in March, to help children and others who are most in need in Darlington.

• In May this year, the DFC U9 girls team, with their manager and coaches, fundraised to provide treat boxes for almost 500 Key Workers. During this time Daisy donated 10 treat boxes to Key Workers within the town, by using her own birthday sweets because her party was cancelled during lockdown.
• In October Daisy, inspired by Marcus Rashford, had the idea to help hungry children, and she decided that she wanted to do something and with money she raised, she put together food bags which went to children in need in the community. DFC donated a sum of money to Daisy’s appeal and Daisy met David Johnston and Mr Q at Blackwell Meadows to receive the donation. The Mayor of Darlington, Chris McEwan awarded Daisy with a Lockdown Hero award for this initiative also.

• In November, Daisy began her Daisy's Toy & Selection Box Appeal Mission and by last week had received enough toys and selection boxes to donate over 350 gifts to the Family Help Refuge, Community Centres and a local Church

Chief Executive, David Johnston said, “The Club applauds the magnificent work that Daisy has done for the benefit of other this year and she will be an inspiration to our whole community. Well done Daisy and thank you for everything you’ve done”.

Darlington Football Club prides itself as being at the Heart of the Community, but Daisy has a heart as big as any community! She is a very special young person, and the Club is proud that she plays for the DFC U10 girls team… she is truly ‘one of our own’. We’re sure the whole community with join her Club in saying a huge ‘Thank You’ to Daisy for her amazing fundraising initiatives… she has brought happiness to hundreds of people in Darlington. Well done Daisy, you are the Club’s Player of the Month for December!
