Burgess, who is in his second spell at the club, will take over from Gary Brown starting with tomorrow's friendly against Bishop Auckland. Brown has recently announced that he is unable to play this season because of the amount of time spent away from his family, and has joined Northern League club Shildon.

“I think Kevin is the logical choice,” said MG.

“He did the job at Whitby when he was there, and he is a great leader. People might wonder why I’ve made a defender our captain, but it worked well with Gary Brown – we won two promotions with him in charge.”
