Darlington defender Gary Brown is hoping for a big turnout of fans for tonight's first home game of the season against Gainsborough.

Quakers produced an excellent 2-0 win at Salford on Saturday to give them a perfect start to the season against one of their promotion rivals, and Browny, who had a terrific game in the heart of the Darlo defence, said; "Hopefully the fans will turn out in force for the game after our great win on Saturday.

"As players, we must do the business on the pitch and encourage the fans to keep coming to matches."

Quakers' victory on Saturday sent a clear message to the rest of the league on the opening day, and he said; "We spoke quite a bit about Salford before the game, especially the 5-1 result on the last day of last season. Those of us who played in that game felt belittled and bullied out of it, but that didn't happen this time round.

"I thought that we were excellent all the way through the team, from 1 to 11. It was a real gutsy, determined Darlington performance, full of energy and everybody sticking together.Everybody worked hard, and that meant Salford ran out of ideas well before the end. They got too predictable and made mistakes.

"I thought they were two great goals by Fergie, especially his first one because he struck the ball at speed, and David Syers was always a danger for us because he's a very intelligent player and is very quick-thinking.

"We've set ourselves a standard now that we've got to maintain. We enjoyed the win, but after an hour or so on Saturday we were all back on planet earth and thinking about Wednesday's game. It wasn't a cup final that we'd won, just three points - -and they will mean nothing if we don't beat Gainsborough on Wednesday. We intend to put on a great performance."
